In reply to <a href="https://stephenullstrom.com/plotter-vs-pantser-the-indexer-edition/#comment-16">Joy Dean Lee</a>.

Thanks for your comment, Joy. Glad you enjoyed the post.

That is interesting to hear how you make notes. I've heard of people making notes within the index, but wasn't sure how that worked in practice. I have a separate note making app on my computer that I use. It keeps the notes separate and I find it easy to flip back and forth as needed.

I'm an indexer of 24 years. Because I learned embedded indexing in PageMaker (the same as Larry Sweazy did), I've always been a "pants" indexer.
I create a main level heading EDIT NOTES where I write notes to myself such as Find/Replace as a Sub 1 and whatever needs to be rechecked as a Sub 2. Three question marks in an entry or after a locator are a standard in the Find/Replace category. That means "I'm just not sure about this entry."
I enjoyed reading your blog post. I also have a blog but use it mainly to post about my travels and my house/pet-sitting pets (my sideline).
